What is BHV and why is it mandatory?

BHV stands for Bedrijfshulpverlening (in-house emergency response). It is a legal requirement for every organisation in the Netherlands, regardless of size or sector. BHV officers are employees trained to act quickly and appropriately in emergencies such as fire, injury, evacuation or other incidents in the workplace. With well-trained BHV officers you not only protect your colleagues and visitors, you also meet the requirements of the Arbowet (Dutch Working Conditions Act).

What does a BHV officer do?

  • Providing first aid: Giving immediate assistance with accidents, injuries or health problems until the emergency services arrive.
  • Firefighting: Intervening quickly and safely when a fire starts, to prevent further damage and casualties.
  • Coordinating evacuation: Ensuring a safe and orderly evacuation in the event of fire or other emergencies.
  • Raising the alarm and coordinating: Calling the emergency services and coordinating the situation until professionals are on site.

Benefits of BHV for your company

  • Maximum safety: Employees and visitors are better protected in emergencies.
  • Rapid response: Immediate action during incidents, keeping injury and damage to a minimum.
  • Legal compliance: Meets the requirements of the Arbowet and prevents fines or claims.
  • Peace of mind: Employees feel safer and valued in a well-prepared organisation.
